Join us for an immersive 4-day workshop dedicated to the magic of indirect oil painting. Whether you are new to oil painting and feel overwhelmed, or if you have experience and are looking to get more out of your current oil painting practice, this workshop is for you! Students will choose from a variety of still life image references on the first day. All levels are welcomed and encouraged.

Day 1: Introductions and Lecture/presentation about indirect painting and discuss the game plan. Instructor demo for Layer 1. Students work for the remainder of the day on the first layer.

Day 2: The Color study (lecture and demo) - using paint in a deliberate way, working in relationships, and the power of opacity. Students will create a color study of their chosen reference.

Day 3: Layer 2 - Instructor demo and lecture about value. Students then dive into our second layer of paint.

Day 4: Layer 3 - Instructor demo and lecture about transitions. Students either continue the second layer if needed or dive into the third if possible.
Julie is the Assistant Director/Instructor at the Academy of Realist Art Boston. Julie’s award-winning work that explores the concepts of nostalgia, relationships, and identity include still life paintings and animal/figurative works. Her work can be found in private collections throughout the US and internationally.
